Research Assessment Exercise
The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) undertakes an assessment of research quality in Universities and Research Organisations in the UK; the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
The results for the RAE2008 were released on Thursday 18th December 2008. Nine submissions were prepared by the College of Medical and Dental Sciences:
| UOA | Title |
| A1 | Cardiovascular Medicine |
| A2 | Cancer Studies |
| A3 | Infection and Immunology |
| A4 | Other Hospital Based Clinical Subjects |
| B6 | Epidemiology and Public Health |
| B7 | Health Services Research |
| B8 | Primary Care and Other Community Based Clinical Subjects |
| B9 | Psychiatry, Neuroscience and Clinical Psychology |
| C10 | Dentistry |
The College was pleased to submit over 250 research active staff; a significant increase (>30%) on RAE2001 and including a large number of Early Career and NHS staff, highlighting College commitment to training/development and effective integration and partnership with our NHS partners.
The RAE2008 outcomes exemplify our world-leading and internationally excellent research activity across a wide range of disciplines, and most significantly within our submissions to UoAs A2, A4 and B8, reflecting our strategic strengths in Cancer Sciences, Hormones & Genes and Primary Care research.
The results also evidence sustained development in other core areas and highlight significant improvement in Epidemiology and Public Health, Health Services Research and Dentistry (UoAs B6, B7 and C10).
